Create a beverage that’s as unique as you! It’s as easy as 1, 2, 3!
- Place your refillable water bottle, cup or container of choice into the alcove.
- Customize your beverage using the intuitive touch screen interface. Start with fresh, filtered still or sparkling water. If desired, add flavors and enhancements – choose one flavor or mix-and-match two at a time. Once selections are made, press the button on the screen to control the amount of custom beverage desired.

What flavors are offered?
In addition to fresh, filtered still or sparkling water, Smartwell offers a full range of delicious, unsweetened, zero-calorie flavors to delight and satisfy the most discerning tastes. Click here for the latest flavors and nutritional information.
What are enhancements?
Want to take your beverage up a notch? Smartwell offers a number of enhancements to elevate your beverage experience. Add a dose of healthy vitamin C or electrolytes, a little (or a lot) of natural sweetener or a boost of caffeine.
How do I store flavor and enhancement pouches?
For optimal freshness, pouches should be stored in a cool, dry place between 60° - 85° F (15° - 30° C).
Do flavors and enhancements expire?
Yes, after 12 months. The freshest pouches will be shipped to you each month and are clearly marked with date codes. The pouches should be used as received, and date codes should be checked before placing pouches into the beverage dispenser to ensure contents have not expired before use.
Are flavors and enhancements gluten free?
Yes. All flavors and enhancements are gluten free.
Are flavors and enhancements kosher?
Yes. All flavors and enhancements are certified kosher.
Why do I need citric acid pouches?
A small dose (a fraction of the flavor concentrate doses) is injected into each drink. This citric acid acts as a flavor enhancer, so each drink gives you the best experience and true fruit flavor.
How many total pouches can a Smartwell unit hold at one time?
In addition to still water, sparkling water and natural sweetener, each beverage dispenser can hold up to four flavors and two enhancements.
How many flavors and enhancements can Smartwell hold at one time?
Smartwell units can hold a total of eight pouches per unit. The most common assortment of pouches includes:
- Citric Acid – One pouch per unit required in order to dispense flavored beverages
- Natural Sweetener – One pouch per unit
- Natural Flavors – Four natural fruit flavors
- Enhancements – Two natural enhancements
What’s the flavor to water concentration of each drink?
Elkay has developed a proprietary ratio of flavor to water to ensure the best possible flavor.
My flavors are too strong/not strong enough. What can be done?
We understand that water pressure varies per location. The new Smartwell units allow users to customize flavor concentration to their specific needs. See the Smartwell Troubleshooting Guide for more information.
How do I change my flavor or enhancement assortment?
It’s easy! Simply visit the Smartwell portal and place an order for flavors and enhancements of your choice. When you receive your pouches, you can easily update your pouch assortment from the unit using the admin screen. Please refer to your Smartwell Use and Care manual for more information.

What are the dimensions of the unit?
Smartwell units are stylish and compact with a much smaller footprint than standard refrigerators allowing them to fit seamlessly into many different spaces. Unit dimensions: (L x W x H): 21-1/2" x 20-1/2" x 56-1/2".
Can it be installed anywhere in my office or facility? What is required for installation?
Smartwell units can be installed in many different places including kitchens, break rooms, reception and waiting room areas and more. All that is required for installation is:
- An area that is roughly eight square feet
- A water source that can be up to 10 feet away from the Smartwell unit
- Access to a Wi-Fi network

How quickly will Smartwell be installed once a contract is signed?
Installation can occur immediately upon receipt of the unit and consumable pouches.
Can I get installation service from Elkay?
A trusted name in water delivery, Elkay has a team of licensed and insured installers and technicians who are ready to get your new Smartwell up and running. Installation typically takes two to three hours per machine.
How soon after install can I start using my unit?
Smartwell will be fully chilled and ready to use three hours after installation is completed.
Does the unit require a floor drain?
It does not require a floor drain and is equipped with a drip tray and reservoir.
What kind of maintenance is required?
Caring for your Smartwell is a breeze. All that’s required of the office or facility manager is weekly cleaning of the unit and flavor and enhancement pouch replacement. Maintenance is easy with the Smartwell portal. The online portal gives you access to data for your connected unit(s) any time of the day. Connected units track usage and send notifications when your units need attention. Your service provider will pick up the heavy lifting with filter and CO2 tank replacement and preventative maintenance.

How do I clean my unit?

How do I replace flavor and/or enhancement pouches?
How does Smartwell connect to the internet?
It connects to the internet using your building or facility’s guest or password protected Wi-Fi. You can also connect using an Ethernet cable.
Why does it require an internet connection?
Smartwell’s connected interface gives you peace of mind and allows you to remotely monitor each unit’s activity from the Smartwell portal. Now you can proactively stay ahead of pouches running low and replace them to prevent downtime. It also provides you with flavor and enhancement data for your unit(s) so you can ensure you are providing the right mix of fun and flavor every month.
If my internet connection goes out, will my Smartwell still work?
The unit will continue to dispense flavors. Account users will not be notified if the flavors are low or empty and the Smartwell portal will not receive unit data until the internet connection to the cloud is restored.
What kind of filter does it use?
Smartwell beverage dispensers feature Elkay WaterSentry filters that are NSF/ANSI 42 and 53 certified for reduction of lead, particulate, chlorine, taste and odor for fresh, filtered still or sparkling water.
Why are my flavors grayed out on my Smartwell screen?
Your citric acid pouch is empty and needs to be replaced. Citric acid is required for all flavored drinks. It acts as a flavor enhancer, so each drink gives you the best experience and true fruit flavor.
Why do I need to prime new flavor and enhancement pouches when I place them in the unit?
Priming is the final step in ensuring pouches are ready for use. The process pulls the liquid from the pouch and through the delivery system so that users receive the right amount of flavor and/or enhancement from the first drink forward.
Can the water flow be adjusted?
Yes. The water flow is set at the default recommended level. High and/or low water pressure may impact the flavor to water concentration, so adjustments may be made to improve drink quality. Please reference the Smartwell Troubleshooting Guide for more information.
What type of notifications do I receive and what do they mean?
Smartwell units provide two types of notifications. Connected units track usage and send daily reports of pouch and CO2 tank status. Account users also receive instant notifications when pouches or CO2 tanks are empty, so they can keep up-to-date with their facility’s custom beverage solution.
The Elkay Smartwell portal is the internet gateway to your assigned Smartwell data. Connected Smartwell units communicate through a cloud-based platform to the portal, allowing users to conveniently monitor units, maintain notifications and manage orders – all from a computer, smartphone or tablet.
Who is the Smartwell portal designed for?
Anyone who will be responsible for managing and maintaining their facility’s Smartwell units.
How does the Smartwell portal work?
The Smartwell portal is connected directly with assigned Smartwell units. Users can set notifications settings for a convenient user experience when managing and monitoring units and receive updates on their desktop, tablet or mobile device in real time.
What are the benefits of the Smartwell portal?
With the Smartwell portal, you can conveniently monitor units, maintain notifications and manage orders – all from computers, smartphones or tablets.
How can the Smartwell portal optimize your drinking water needs?
The Smartwell portal helps users understand drinking behavior in their facilities -optimizing assortment, reducing single-use plastic bottle and aluminum can usage.
- Dashboards show consumption trends so that flavors and enhancements can be selected appropriately when ordering consumables
- Elkay Green Ticker™ counts the number of bottles served without the plastic bottle waste.
Does the portal cost extra?
No, it’s included with the Smartwell unit.
What are the advantages of touchless dispensing?
In today’s changing world, users are often apprehensive about touching appliances, handles, etc., that numerous other people may have touched before them. Leading manufacturers of appliances for commercial spaces are looking to provide solutions to address this concern.
How secure is the unit?
This touchless solution provides a secure connection. Users cannot access admin screens or override the dispense time-out.
How secure is user data?
No personal data can be accessed if the software was to be compromised.
Why didn’t the unit receive the update?
Confirm your unit is connected to the internet and that it is running on the newest version of the Smartwell software. The touchless enhancement is available with software version 126.96.36.199.0 and newer. I own my Smartwell. Do I have to install this new software?
The software will be pushed to the unit over the air. Once installed, the new terms and conditions must be accepted to activate the feature. When accessing the Admin screen, a pop-up box will appear to complete the feature update.
What smartphone versions are compatible with the app?
Compatible with iOS versions 12 and 13. Compatible with Android versions 9 and 10. The software will be compatible with future iOS and Android versions as they are released.
My connection is slow. What can I do to improve the connection?
Ensure strong Wi-Fi network or cellular connection. In some instances, closing other apps may help to improve speed.
What personal information is collected when I use Smartwell?
No personal information is collected or stored. Only drink data is stored at the unit.
I took a picture of the QR code. Why isn’t my app connecting to/locating the unit?
Check your phone settings. Ensure phone camera is enabled to scan QR codes.
The app says I’m connected to the unit, but it’s not dispensing?
Disconnect and reconnect to unit. If the problem persists, please contact site manager or service provider.
Will I get automatic app software updates?
Yes. Ensure settings allow for automatic updates.
