    About Equitas #3

Equitas #3 Charter School serves the Pico-Union neighborhood near downtown Los Angeles. The school serves 500 elementary-aged students.

    The Objective

In an area of Los Angeles that is relatively devoid of clean, pure drinking water due to local infrastructure, the goal was to deliver continuous fresh drinking water to the students throughout the school day.

    The Challenges

    • School Resides in Old Building
    • Neighborhood Facilities and Piping are Substandard
    • Children Generally Unable to Get Fresh Water at Home
    • Antiquated and Unreliable Drinking Fountains
    • Delivering Drinking Water to School Extremely Costly and Inefficient

    The Zurn Elkay Solution

ZE installed a series of On-Wall Bottle Filler Combo units throughout the school, eliminating the need for manual externally delivered jugged drinking water.

    The Results

The school now conveniently delivers safe, convenient drinking water to the entire student body. Students bring their water bottles to the uniits and fill them up regularly throughout the day as needed. The cost savings were immense - Equitas #3 will save roughly $30,000 per year by investing in the Zurn Elkay bottle filler infrastructure and saying goodbye to the 5-gallon water jugs that needed to be manually refilled off-site and brought back continuouly throughout each week. The administration can now re-route that money for other needs for the school, such as books and supplies.

Some things we are working on as a school is monitoring waste in general, and that’s what I really love about the partnership with Zurn Elkay is that we are able to eliminate more plastic from our school and our community, and also provide our kids with healthy drinking water that we know is safe.
