What is lead? Where does it come from?
Lead has been widely used in plumbing systems that transport water for centuries. Despite changes in plumbing codes making it illegal to use lead pipes or solder, lead is still found in older pipes, solder and brass fittings in existing plumbing systems. Do your products remove lead?

Do your products contain lead?
No. Our drinking water products have been lead free for over two decades, and they are certified to NSF/ANSI 372 as lead free by the Water Quality Association.
How did Elkay Test its Filters?
Elkay tests and certifies our filters to NSF/ANSI Standard 53.
“NSF/ANSI Standard 53 for Drinking Water Treatment is the nationally recognized standard for evaluating and certifying drinking water treatment systems for the reduction of contaminants from drinking water. Water filters are tested and certified to NSF/ANSI 53 to ensure they reduce contaminants, including lead, per the requirements of the standard” (Certified Product Listing, NSF).
Ordinarily, the water tested to achieve NSF/ANSI 53 certification contains 150 ppb of lead. To be certified, a filter must reduce that level to less than 10 ppb, which is 5 ppb lower than the action level mandated by the U.S. EPA. In response to many requests from facility managers concerned about elevated lead levels in their water, Elkay tested their filters using the same testing methodology used for certification, but using water with a lead concentration of 1,500 ppb, which is 10 times the lead level used in NSF/ANSI 53 testing and 100 times higher than the U.S. EPA Action Level.
Even with influent starting at the elevated level of 1,500 ppb, over the entire life of two filter tests run in parallel, the filters were able to reduce the lead level by over 99%.
- What this means to you: You can feel confident that if your water contains lead up to 150 ppb, bottle filling stations, drinking fountains or water coolers equipped with an NSF/ANSI 53 certified filter from Elkay can reduce the lead to levels significantly below the U.S. EPA Action Level for up to 3,000 gallons. For some applications, such as bottle filling stations, drinking fountains and water coolers, upgrading to a filtered model may be a viable solution for schools and other institutions who want to remove lead from their drinking water.
What is NSF/ANSI 53?
NSF/ANSI 53 is the leading industry standard used to assess whether or not a filtration system can effectively remove health-related contaminants such as lead from drinking water. To make sure a filtration system is of the highest quality, verify it has been certified for specific reduction claims within NSF/ANSI 53 by an ANSI-accredited independent certifying organization like the Water Quality Association (WQA) and NSF International.
What are the differences between models?
Our bottle filling station line-up includes a wide range of features and finished looks. In our enhanced line up – we offer filtered models in two finishes, Light Gray Granite or Stainless Steel. We have the option for Single or Bi-Level Bottle Filler Combination style units, depending on what you need. We also have our standard line of bottle filling stations, where we offer models for indoor use and outdoor use. Some models are battery-operated; others are electric-powered. What features have been added to the new line?
Our new line of bottle filling stations come with an Energy Savings mode, which can be programmed to power down refrigeration in times of low or non-use. They also have diagnostics built into the refrigeration system to help get the unit back up and running should there ever be an issue. Filter recognition allows for the unit to recognize the new filter being installed and reset the LED light only by changing out the filter. How much do the units cost and what’s the ROI?
Costs vary by unit style, but in our new enhanced line up, we have singles cooler combo units starting at $1500 and bi-level style units starting at $2100. On-going costs include filter replacement every 3,000 gallons or after a year of usage, whichever comes first. The ROI depends on multiple factors such as the style of unit and your current water usage. Other considerations include the savings from reducing plastic waste disposal, eliminating on-going monthly water service, as well as the benefit of providing a healthy beverage alternative.
What kind of a filter is it and how much does it cost?
Our filter is a carbon block filter with a polypropylene prefilter that is rated to NSF 42 & 53 for lead, chlorine, taste and odor. It’s rated for 3,000 gallons. Our List Price is $125, which works out to just $0.04 per gallon.
How long do the filters last?
Our filters are rated for 3,000 gallons, which is about 24,000 16-ounce bottles. Actual filter life will depend on your water conditions. We also recommend changing the filter at least once a year.
Is it a generic filter or do I have to buy it from Elkay?

What does the filter remove from the water?
The Elkay® WaterSentry® Plus EWF3000 filter used in the ezH2O® bottle filling stations reduces aesthetic chlorine, taste and odor, particulate class I, and lead. The filter has a rated capacity of 3,000 gallons.
How easy is it to change the filter?

How do I reset the visual filter monitor light?
There’s no need to -- Enhanced bottle filling stations recognize when a filter has been replaced and automatically reset the filter monitor light from red to green.
What does the yellow light mean on the bottle filling station? Is the water still safe to drink?
The LED lights on the bottle filling station indicate the status of the filter. Green indicates the filter needs no attention. Yellow is to alert the maintenance or repair group that a new filter will be needed shortly. The unit is still safe to drink from; water is still being filtered. Who can I have install a bottle filling station?

Are units available for immediate delivery?
Most of our models are available to be shipped within 5 days. A few models may require 7 – 14 days.
How easy is it to replace our old water machines with the bottle filling stations?
That really depends on the style of water machine you’re looking to replace. If you’re replacing a wall-hung, ADA-style cooler with our Cooler Combination style bottle filling station, it’s a simple process. We recommend contacting one of our local sales rep, who can do an assessment of your current units and suggest the best options for replacement.
How much water pressure is required?
Our bottle filling stations are designed to operate on 20 psi to 105 psi supplyline pressure. Our bi-level non-filtered units require a minimum of 40 psi supply line pressure to ensure adequate stream height from each bubbler when activated simultaneously. Bi-level filtered models, regardless of supply line pressure, cannot provide adequate stream height from each bubbler when activated simultaneously. How long does it take to install a bottle filler and what tools are needed?
On average, it takes approximately 1-2 hours to complete a retrofit installation. Elkay recommends installation by authorized service personnel. All installations will require various tools typically used by service personnel such as wrenches and drills.
What is different about the installation of the Enhanced bottle filling stations?
The bottle filler is installed on the wall the same way. The dimensions, mounting bracket, electrical drain, and water supply are all the same. For bi-level cooler combination units, we have simplified the process and now there is only one to plug into the wall. Between the tower and the basin, a single plug that can’t be installed incorrectly. Just plug it in and it works!
What type of maintenance and cleaning is required?
Maintenance on the bottle filling stations is very simple and should be included as part of the building’s general cleaning schedule. We recommend cleaning the unit regularly with warm soapy water. The stainless basin, plastic alcove and top unit should be wiped down with a general mild detergent and soft cloth, rinsed and towel dried. If needed, a mild vinegar and water solution may help remove hard water stains. For stubborn stains on the stainless steel areas, a non-scratch Scotch-Brite™ cleaning pad may be used. Always remember to follow the direction of the grain. Avoid using steel soap pads as particles can adhere to the stainless steel and eventually cause rust. Light scratches are normal for stainless steel basins; over time they will blend into the uniform finish pattern.
How can I tell if people are using the bottle filling stations?
Each bottle filling station can tell you how much water is being consumed from the unit itself. We have a Green Ticker™ on our units, which counts every 20 fluid ounces of water dispensed, and eliminating waste from disposable plastic bottles. That number shows you how much the bottle filling stations are being used.

In your user manual, there is a table that explains each error code and what is the cause of that error code, what are the areas to look at for repair. Where is the data tag located on the bottle filling station?
The serial data tag is now located on the bottom of the cooler. Previously, there was a separate tag for the bottle filler and an additional one on the cooler. We have consolidated it into one tag on the underside of the cooler basin.
