Rated 3 out of 5 by from A bit over rated for the home I saw several ads in different magazines showing this beautiful water dispenser . Since I was building a new home, perfect time to install. My biggest beef is that unlike all the pictures show, the overall unit does not sit flatly and sleekly against the cabinets. It stick out, away from the cabinet about 1.5 inches. For real - I know this as I had 2 plumbers and several contractors come look as I knew this could not be right! Well, it is so keep that in mind when installing. Also, my refrigeration unit dispenses "cool" water, not cold. On a positive note, the water is good and I do not have to have water delivered in 5 gallon containers any longer. Hoping for future buyers that they "fix" this design flaw so that this unit will be as beautiful as the rest of the appliances in a new home!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Great idea, poor execution! We bought this for our new home build since we were using a custom paneled refrigerator which meant no water dispenser. We were very excited when we saw this and knew right away this would be our solution instead of having a water service. Fast forward to today (we’ve been in the house a month). We noticed our hardwoods were buckling about a foot away from where the dispenser is installed. It’s winter and although we have a humidifier, floors should have been contracting a little, not expanding. We also noticed there was bubbling in the drywall seam downstairs, right below where the water dispenser is located. We called the contractor and he had the plumber come out and take a look. He didn’t find any leaks in the water or drainage line (after a couple big drywall cuts). He was pouring water into drain pain and noticed it was leaking underneath the unit, not from drain pipes or pan. Bottom line, any water that splashes ( and it will happen) runs down the back and then gets out through the unsealed part. Hard to verbalize but bottom line, it is a MAJOR design flaw. The back should be one piece that extends into drain pan, not just down to it. My immediate fix will be to caulk the back of the unit so water doesn’t get down. Once this design flaw is fixed, aside from the fact it doesn’t get very cold, it will be a great unit. Unfortunately this flaw will probably cost me a couple thousand dollars, between flooring and drywall, to fix. I hope they read this and redesign the unit.

Questions

Is the leaking issue fixed in your product here now as noted in your first review? Considering purchasing this model to install  in new construction but giving me a pause given the noted water leaking issue.

Thank you for your question on the Elkay LBWD06 ezH2O Liv Built-in Filtered Refrigerated Water Dispenser. Thousands of these units have been installed to date with that being the only time that issue was reported. We have reviewed the design and the overlapping components should be adequate to prevent any splash leakage outside the unit. We have also tested this in the lab and could not reproduce the issue. We suspect either damaged components or an installation issue may be at fault.

How much water (what volume of water) can STAY chilled by this unit? I am not asking for the 1.5 gallon/hour rate. I am asking about how much water will be cold if the kids come to fill water bottles in the morning after overnight chilling to capacity.

Asked by: Chuck Schick

Does this unit have to be connected to a drain line or can it be "capped" off? We'd like to add this but it would go in a location where no drain lines exist.

Asked by: Damon
Thank you for your question on the Elkay LBWD06 ezH2O Liv Built-in Filtered Refrigerated Water Dispenser. The water dispenser does not require a drain connection to the household wastewater plumbing. The water dispenser has a built-in catch basin that will hold the typical overflow that can occur when using the product. However, some local building codes may require a wastewater drain to prevent the potential overflow of water. Please make sure to check your local codes before purchasing to make sure it will work in the location you plan on installing the unit.

Using LBWD06. The sink is in the island so the plumbing will specifically be for this unit and a 2nd dishwasher. Where is the best place to install the dispenser? Wall at back of counter or cabinet?

Asked by: Anonymous
Thank you for your question on the LBWD06. Without knowing the exact layout, the best location would be the wall in the back of the counter and not in the cabinet.
