Shine On

Gloss goes beyond the surface, highlighting materials and shapes like nothing else. We're looking for burnished, polished or just plain shiny these days, something to wake up our senses. Alternate gloss with matte for a super sophisticated look—gloss paint stripes, then eggshell in the same color. Or pair a sequined skirt with a dull Peter Pan collared sweater à la Louis Vuitton at the fall Paris shows.

Metallic fabrics are totally chic, especially when woven by a master textile designer like London's Lynn Tandler. Try dressing your windows in her malleable copper and copper tinned cloth.

Then spice up any room with a glossy ABS plastic piece like this 360 container by Konstantin Grcic, or, if you'd rather, with a more traditional chest of drawers covered in mirrored tiles. The reflections are endless.
